On Wednesday 19 August, the Whitefield Live Well Centre were delighted to host a Kitchen Kit Giveaway event in partnership with Cracking Good Food, organised by Bury VCFA.

The event brought together a range of community groups and public service organisations that support residents across the borough. The aim was simple: to redistribute donated kitchen equipment to individuals and organisations who could put it to good use, helping to reduce waste while supporting local people.

Bury VCFA was delighted to attend the official opening of the new Whitefield Live Well Centre on Albert Road on Sunday 16 August, marking an exciting new chapter for local health, wellbeing and community support.

The centre was officially opened by the Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Councillor Mohammed Tahir Rafiq, who cut the ribbon during a celebratory event attended by local residents, community groups and support organisations.

On Wednesday July 8th at Olives Kitchen, Bury VCFA was delighted to welcome VCSE organisations from across the borough to the relaunch of the Children, Young People and Families (CYPF) Forum (name a work in progress).

The event brought together organisations that are passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people and families, providing an opportunity to reconnect, build new relationships and help shape the future of the forum.

Let Your Light Shine is a community group based in Prestwich who provide social activities for children, young people and their families. Their aim is to bring the community together through the art of performance, dance, drama, music, art, games and food. Sherrie from Let Your Light Shine was keen to try a new sports themed event for her community over the summer holidays.

On the 3rd June, Bury hosted the 5th Greater Manchester Green and Blue Spaces Action Network meeting at the Barn in Philips Park. The network, organised by Sow the City connects residents, organisations and community groups who are working to improve access to nature across the city region. The Bury event was facilitated by the Right to Grow working group who is made up of Bury Council staff, Bury VCFA, The Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Incredible Edible Prestwich and District.

The Fusilier Museum was the splendid venue for the symposium which was attended by residents and representatives from many organisations, all with dementia experience and expertise. The event, held on 6th May, had presentations on a range of topics including:

You are invited to attend the For the Best – Dementia Symposium at the Fusiliers Museum on Wednesday 6th May, 10am to 1.30pm. This event is being run under the Bury Dementia Strategy and will be a great opportunity to find out more about the examples of excellent work taking place in Bury for dementia support.

The final programme will follow and will focus on sharing best practice in a challenging area of adult social care.
