Let Your Light Shine is a community group based in Prestwich who provide social activities for children, young people and their families. Their aim is to bring the community together through the art of performance, dance, drama, music, art, games and food. Sherrie from Let Your Light Shine was keen to try a new sports themed event for her community over the summer holidays.
Let Your Light Shine have been receiving regular development support from our Capacity Building Development Officer, Katherine. As part of this development support, they were offered a Sports Micro-investment of £500 to support their summer sports day events. The investment allowed them to buy equipment including bean bags, hoops, tug of war rope and sacks to trial a summer sports day event. The first of these events took place in June 2026 and was attended by 20 children and their families.
Due to the success of this trial event, they now have plans for a larger event at Bury Athletics Club in August 2026. This event will be a vibrant and inclusive community sports day designed to bring together individuals and families of all ages for a day of fun, fitness, and social connection.
