Volunteer Development Officer
This role is part of our Capacity Building Team and plays a key role in strengthening the volunteering infrastructure across Bury. By supporting both individuals and organisations, you will increase participation, improve quality of volunteer programmes, and ensure volunteering contributes to a stronger, more sustainable VCSE sector.

As a borough-wide role, every day brings something different. You might be working one-to-one with an individual taking their first steps into volunteering, working alongside a community group providing tailored advice and guidance, delivering an inspiring training session, or helping our networks and forums connect and collaborate. You’ll also represent the sector at meetings and events, giving VCSE organisations a strong and trusted voice in local conversations. It’s a varied, people-focused role where your support will make a tangible difference to community organisations across Bury.

Senior Capacity Building Development Officer (Spaces of Hope)
We are seeking an experienced, values-driven development professional to lead Bury VCFA’s Spaces of Hope work, focusing on community assets, wealth building, and the social economy. This senior role will champion community-led development, helping residents and partners grow local assets and opportunities that create lasting social value. You will support the creation of “spaces of hope” where communities have the power and resources to shape their futures.

Working within Bury VCFA’s Capacity Building offer, you will strengthen local social infrastructure, including community organisations, shared spaces and networks. You will embed community wealth building principles to retain resources locally and build resilience and equity. The role also supports neighbourhood approaches, including Community Connector networks, ensuring community voice and lived experience shape decisions, services and system change.
Senior Capacity Building Development Officer (Active Communities)
We are looking for an experienced, values-driven development professional to lead Bury VCFA’s Active Communities work. This senior role will strengthen community capacity, participation and influence through place-based working, civic
engagement and high-quality support for voluntary, community and faith sector (VCSE) organisations.

You will lead a small team within the Capacity Building service, overseeing a high-quality training and development programme for community groups. The role includes leading neighbourhood work through Community Connector networks and supporting community voice, ensuring lived experience shapes decisions, services and reform. This is a leadership role requiring strong partnership working to support the VCSE sector, empower communities and build long-term resilience.
