On Wednesday 19 August, the Whitefield Live Well Centre were delighted to host a Kitchen Kit Giveaway event in partnership with Cracking Good Food, organised by Bury VCFA.
The event brought together a range of community groups and public service organisations that support residents across the borough. The aim was simple: to redistribute donated kitchen equipment to individuals and organisations who could put it to good use, helping to reduce waste while supporting local people.
A wide variety of items were available, including pots and pans, chopping boards, plates, cups, toasters and other essential kitchen equipment. Several community groups attending were able to collect resources that will help them deliver upcoming cooking classes and food-based activities for local residents.
The event was a fantastic success, with more than 100kg of kitchen items diverted from landfill and brought back into use. By giving these items a second life, the initiative not only reduced waste but also supported organisations working to improve health, wellbeing and community connection across Bury.
It was also wonderful to see the Whitefield Live Well Centre being used as a hub for bringing local organisations together and supporting practical community action.
The Kitchen Kit Giveaway was funded through Live Well as part of the Let's Live Well & Cook Well Initiative, which aims to support residents to develop cooking skills, make healthier choices and strengthen community wellbeing.
