North West in Bloom Awards
The North West in Bloom awards are managed by the Royal Horticultural Society and are a way of celebrating and recognising the work of local voluntary groups. Katherine, our Capacity Building Development Officer worked with Roy from North West in Bloom to increase applications from Bury groups.
Roy from North West in Bloom attended our North Bury Connections meeting in November 2024 to promote the 2025 North West in Bloom ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ community campaign.
This meeting was attended by 12 groups who were interested in entering the North West in Bloom competition. During this meeting, Roy was able to share information about the application process for the 2025 awards.
Roy also attended the Growing Together Radcliffe networking meeting to promote the competition to groups in Radcliffe.
Following these meetings, Katherine connected Roy to the interested groups and Roy visited them to provide bespoke support with their application ahead of the deadline in March 2025. Greenmount Village Community Group benefitted from Roy’s advice when entering their community garden for the first time.
The North West in Bloom judges visited the groups over the summer months to view the gardens in full bloom. The volunteers from the groups enjoyed getting their gardens ready for judging. Several groups including Tottington Civic Pride received donations from local businesses and residents to help them get ready for the judges.
The awards ceremony took place in November 2025 with 13 groups from across Bury being awarded in the following categories:
Level 5 (Outstanding)
Tottington Civic Pride (North Bury)
Greenmount Village Community (North Bury)
Barge Garden (Radcliffe)

Friends of Outwood Country Park (Radcliffe)

Each group has received a certificate which they will be able to put on display to showcase their achievement. Receiving a North West in Bloom award will help groups attract new volunteers and funding opportunities.
