The Bury Older People’s Network kicked off the year with a fantastic turnout at its Away day on 14 January 2026.
The session opened with a warm welcome from the BOPN Chair Joanna Mawdsley followed by updates from guest speakers Lynne Ridsdale, Chief Executive, Bury Council and Tamoor Tariq, Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Public Service Reform. Attendees then took part in lively networking and round‑table discussions focused on shaping the future of the Network as it enters its fifth year of providing older people with a policy and practice voice in Bury.
What We Heard
Participants shared a wide range of ideas and reflections around the four areas of the Action Plan, which have now been formalised until January 2027.
These ideas will be explored further at upcoming Bury Older People’s Network meetings.
Joanna Mawdsley, chair of the network commented that the Network has reached the next stage in its development, so that we can now be more specific in what we expect from ourselves and others. The Network has an excellent relationship in key areas and with highly placed staff within Bury Council and by working together we will ensure we achieve the best outcomes for older people in the Bury borough.
