Josh’s Volunteer Story
I recently graduated with an MChem in Chemistry, and after working with a careers coach I was referred to Bury VCFA to gain more work placed experience and develop skills that would support my future career.
Volunteering with Bury VCFA for six weeks gave me the experience and confidence I’d been missing. I worked with another volunteer on a big data‑cleansing project, gathering feedback from over 500 volunteers on the Bury VCFA Volunteer Bank. With support from Michael, the Volunteer Development Officer, I worked with another volunteer to research, collect notes and review the needs of volunteers to help improve the Bury VCFA services.
Before volunteering, I had the skills, but not the necessary experience for applying for jobs, but through this role I gained valuable workplace experience in an office environment and developed my communication and teamwork skills which helped me secure a new job related to my degree. I really enjoyed my time at Bury VCFA and would recommend volunteering to anyone who wants to build their skills and experience.
