More than 100 local residents attended the Delicious Vegilicious Cooking and Health Event at the Whitefield Live Well Centre on Thursday 29 October.

Delivered in partnership with FareShare Greater Manchester, the event combined healthy eating, practical cooking skills and health and wellbeing support in a fun, family-friendly environment. Attendees enjoyed live cooking demonstrations from chef Mike, who showcased simple and nutritious recipes using fruit and vegetables. Over 60kgs of food were distributed for free so that visitors were also able to take home and recreate the recipes and practise their new skills at home.

A wide range of local public, voluntary, community, social enterprise (VCSE) and private sector partners came together to provide information, advice and interactive activities. The event demonstrated the strength of partnership working within Whitefield and highlighted the wide range of support available to local residents.

Organisations attending included:

  • Whitefield Health Visiting Team, providing information and free toothbrush packs for families.
  • The Creative Living Centre, offering mental health and wellbeing information alongside healthy fruit kebab activities.
  • Bury Live Well Service, delivering health information, blood pressure checks and guidance on food labelling, sugar and salt content.
  • Bury Children's Centres and Family Hub, hosting a story corner featuring a special Proptastic Tales reading of Harry and the Dinosaurs Say Rah, focusing on oral health. Children also had the opportunity to practise brushing teeth and become familiar with dental tools.
  • Whitefield Integrated Neighbourhood Team, sharing information about cardiovascular health and running rock decorating activities.
  • School Nursing Team, providing parents with an opportunity to ask questions and receive advice.
  • Besses Together, leading seasonal craft activities and colouring fruits and vegetable pictures
  • Fit Round My Baby Whitefield & Prestwich, promoting postnatal fitness and community connections.
  • Bury Adult Learning Service, offering information on training opportunities and upcoming courses including cooking and food safety courses.
  • Board games and reading corner for families to enjoy together.

The event not only helped residents learn more about healthy eating and wellbeing but also created valuable opportunities for local organisations to connect, collaborate and learn more about each other's services. By bringing partners together in one place, the event showcased how joined-up community support can help residents live healthier, happier lives.

The Whitefield Live Well Centre continues to bring local organisations and residents together through a programme of activities designed to support health, wellbeing and stronger community connections.
