From Vision to Impact - Building Your Theory of Change

A Theory of Change is more than just a funding requirement. It is a powerful planning and impact tool that helps organisations understand how their activities contribute to meaningful change, identify what success looks like and ensure resources are focused where they will have the greatest impact.

Whether you are developing a new project, reviewing an existing service, preparing for funding applications or looking to strengthen your impact reporting, a Theory of Change can provide a clear framework for understanding and communicating the difference you make.

By creating a visual map of how your activities lead to outcomes and long-term impact, you can move beyond simply describing what you do to confidently explaining why it matters, who benefits and how change happens.

During this session, participants will:

• Understand what a Theory of Change is and why it matters 
• Explore how Theory of Change supports planning, evaluation and funding applications 
• Learn the key building blocks: needs, activities, outputs, outcomes and impact 
• Identify the assumptions, influences and external factors that can affect success 
• Consider how to evidence and measure change effectively 
• Develop a draft Theory of Change tailored to their own organisation or project 
• Gain practical tools and templates to take away and use immediately

No previous experience of impact measurement is required.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how their work creates change, increased confidence in communicating impact and the foundations of a practical Theory of Change that can support future planning, evaluation and funding opportunities.
